How to Easily Draw: Hair pt.1

Hair can be hard to draw especially because of all the tiny details we have to pay attention to. Here is a guide to draw hair the simplest and best way. Here’s how to draw hair in a ponytail.

Start off my outlining the important lines in your drawing. Use a H2 pencil.

Start pressing a bit harder on your pencil and define the lines. Now, pick up the F pencil and start drawing strokes out of the tied hair. Remember to not make the strokes straight, but rather curved and lighter as you go farther away from the tied hair.
Draw in some depths and don’t make everything the same shade. Know where your light will be hitting from and shade according to that.17500460_1252782948173672_300392019_o.jpg
With a 3B pencil you can make the depths darker. Use this pencil lightly in the places where the light will be hitting and harder in places opposite to that. Define the hairs coming in and out of the tied hair.

With a mechanical 2B pencil, you can define the lines even better because of the thin tip. Make lots and lots and lots of hairs that are darker, and lighter and in between. Make the tips of the hairs darker and the hairs that are closer to the tied hair piece darker.

And you are finished! This is part one of the drawing hair series, the second part is now available here, and third part is now available here.
