The 2017 Trend: Riverdale

“Our story is about a town. A small town. And the people who live in the town. From a distance, it presents itself like so many other small towns all over the world, safe, decent, innocent. Get closer though, and you start seeing the shadows underneath. The name of our town is Riverdale. And our story begins, I guess, with what the blossom twins did this summer. On the 4th of July, just after dawn, Jason and Cheryl Blossom drove out to sweetwater river…”—these are the opening lines to the very first episode of the thrilling new series, Riverdale.

At the beginning of every episode, Cole Sprouse (playing Jughead Jones), repeats, “The story’s about a town, once wholesome and innocent, now forever changed by the mysterious death/murder of Jason Blossom on the 4th of July.”

The famous American teen drama, CW television series is based on the characters from the Archie Comic book series. The show is a subversive take on Archie Andrews and his friends, exploring the darkness and mystery beneath a seemingly wholesome small town. It focuses on each character separately, making sure the viewers get to know them and their background stories whilst progressing through the episodes. You’ve got the love triangle, a murder mystery, dysfunctional families, high school drama, rebellious teenagers, hot actors, and dark humour. What more do you need?

Here are a few opinions on Riverdale:

“I was disappointed to see the characters being slightly played from a different perspective but the show grows into you.”- Radiah Rivu

“When I first began show, I had no clue that I would love it this much. It has everything you would look for in a good show (drama, comedy, and a gripping storyline) (#Jugheadisbae).” – Anne Jones

“I love it and everything it stands for.” – Maya Lijeskic

“So far, I have enjoyed Riverdale a lot mainly because of the suspense. There are many aspects of the plot that they keep hidden and that you only find out later in the show.” – Alice Greene

“The show concentrates on the different levels in society which makes it very interesting. I especially love the insanely hot actors.” – Stella Moazed

“Cole Sprouse is gorg.” – Eve Knox

“[It’s like] Stranger Things but grown up, and slightly more chick flicky.” – Marina Issayeva

“Riverdale is like the new/modern Gossip Girl.” – Eden Dordi

“[It’s like the] popcorn eating and binge watching kind of show. Storyline is a bit too shaky and the production is bad at times, but fun to watch.” – Nomin Enkhstegsteg

The 2 month old series is a massive new trend with a lot of viewers. The storyline is promising, and never fails to impress.
