This is the new rising trend among female fashionistas—the bralette: a bra without wires or moulded cups. Celebrities wear it all the time, and not only because it looks très chic, but also because it is super comfortable and easy to go out in. And, while some journalists have not forgotten (how could they?) to point out that bralettes are targeted towards the small to average busted females, they have become so popular now that almost anyone can and will wear them. What’s even more is that they are often worn both visible to the public but also as normal bras (which is what they arguably started out as being).
According to a writer called Heather Schwedel, the modern world may be “witnessing a new era of body positivity in which women are throwing off the encumbrance of traditional bras and flaunting what nature gave them. Or if you want to be cynical about it, maybe retailers have just found a new category to thrust on customers.”
“She’s a dainty little thing, all flimsy straps, lace, and minimal padding. After years of playing second fiddle, she’s finally enjoying some time in the limelight: displays at major retailers, articles about her growing influence.”
Kari Molvar wrote in an article for Allure that “much of the bralette movement, of course, is about intentionally showing it off—an idea that sound pretty great in the heat of summer.” She titled the article “Why No One’s Wearing a Bra Anymore”.
